Digital Zoom is when the camera crops the image and then re-sizes the image to the original size. Optical Zoom is when the camera uses the movement of lens to magnify the view without changing the resolution or distorting the digital image. As you can see from the photo above, Optical Zoom is Obviously the best idea in terms of quality, but as you can guess, it’s a bit more expensive and it often makes the camera a bit more bulkier than those with only Digital Zoom. So it just depends on your budget and what exactly you need.
